Preparing Your Appliances for a Stress-Free Holiday Season

Aug 02, 2022

Cleaning your appliances is one way to avoid contacting appliance repair services and wasting money. After all, washing your machines and taking the proper maintenance steps can keep your devices running smoothly.

The same case goes for your freezer because repairs often aren’t cheap. Plus, they’re inconvenient. You’ll need some time to take out the food and make room for the technicians to come in.

However, what if you're cleaning your freezer and there's no defrost cycle? No worries, because here are the following tips you can take to ensure a clean and safe freezer.

Prepare the Cleaning Supplies

You must prepare all necessary cleaning materials and tools like all cleaning methods. Take note that you need the following:

  • Medium to Large Cooler
  • Ice Packs
  • Pitcher of Hot Water
  • Towels
  • Sponges
  • Dish Soap
  • Surface Cleaner

If you don't have a cooler, grab a disposable styrofoam cooler at the grocery or convenience store. You'll also need to take note of the size of your freezer. This will make it easier for you to buy the right amount of ice packs and the water you will pour into the freezer.

Don't Forget to Remove the Food

It's apparent that you need to remove everything in the freezer before you clean it. However, some might forget this step. So, removing everything from your freezer is best before you start the cleaning process.

If you have frozen meat or chicken, take them out and place them in the refrigerator. You can thaw them out overnight or use the defrost setting of your microwave. If your freezer has a plastic container that you can use to store food, use it.

Leave the door of your refrigerator open while the food is thawing. This way, you won't forget to move the food back to the freezer after they're thawed.

Start the Cleaning Process

Once done, melt the ice on the freezer walls with hot water. Make sure to do this after you've opened all the containers and doors. Dip the sponge in hot water, then wipe the sides and bottom of your freezer. Use dish soap to clean the walls and other hard-to-reach areas.

The next step is to spray the bottom area with a surface cleaner. This is to ensure that all the food scraps are gone. Then, take the kitchen towel, put it underneath the freezer, and start wiping from the bottom. You can make this two or three times to ensure all the old food scraps are gone.

Reload the Freezer

Once done, you can now put the food back inside. Make sure to place back the frozen products first, such as meat and chicken, to avoid food spoilage and the growth of bacteria.

The remaining items, such as vegetables, fruits, and other non-frozen products, can return to the freezer after an hour. If you're concerned that they are not yet cold enough, you can take them out again. Place them in the fridge, then put them back in the freezer.

Conclusion

Freezer cleaning may sound complicated, but it's easy and does not take up much time. Just remember to prepare all the cleaning supplies you need and follow each step so you won't rely on freezer repair services.
